Greetings all! My name is Stacy and I live in beautiful Colorado. I have been searching for a WWII forum for some time now and I think I have hit the jackpot! I got interested in WWII when I was quite young. Two things happened that started my interest. The first was when I was spending the night at my grandparents house and went snooping one night. I came upon my grandfather's old Army uniform, a stack of letters, old black and white photos, and some trinkets. My grandmother soon discovered what I had found and my questions began. Suffice it to say the questions have never ceased and neither has my learning. About the same time I discovered my grandfathers Army coat, I watched with my family the mini-series The Winds of War (not sure if anyone recalls the mini-series or not) but it too peaked my interest and curiosity. Kinda silly I know! My focus of interest is the European Theater, the Holocaust, and German society/politics before and during the rise of Hitler and the Third Reich. I'm not a scholar or historian, just a girl who loves studying/reading/watching/discussing anything and everything WWII. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and engaging in great discussions.
Stacy -- Welcome! This is a fine place and you will enjoy your time here! If you have any of the letters that you discovered, and you are comfortable sharing them, I am sure we would enjoy hearing them. Cheers!
Thank you! I may do just that. I'm going home (Kansas) for the holidays and I am hoping to find some of the letters and pictures. Might be a bit of a scavenger search since my grandmother has long since passed away and she was the "keeper" of all those mementos but I really do want to find them. Thanks for the welcome by the way!
I will assume that since you are from Kansas, you have been to the Eisehhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene. If not, you should find a way to visit it on one of your visits home. It really is a wonderful place and there is a tremendous WWII collection.
Howdy Bella and welcome to the forum. Plenty of information available here as well as very informed members. You will fit right in. Good to have you and happy posting.
Welcome Stacy! So what can you tell us about your grandfather? What stories did your grandmother have to tell?
Hi Stacy! Please allow me too to welcome you to the WW2F! There are many great folks here (all the guys above this post btw and many others) who can really help you in finding out about your Grandfather's service record and the history of WW2. Cheers!
Hello there ~ My grandfather was in the 37th Infantry, Buckeye Division and saw combat in the Philippines. In the past, he really didn't want to talk about what he experienced during the war however I have noticed that in the past few years he has begun to open up. I really want to get his stories and experiences on video tape but I'm not sure how comfortable he would be with that. Thanks for asking!
