At the time of his death about two years ago, I was an assistant and secretary to this famous WW2 nightfighter ace. I was also collaborating with him on the production of a painting of one of his most exciting kills-the downing of a FW-190 over his own home airfield of West Malling in Kent. In the end the project collapsed because John would not sanction the lighting levels depicted in the painting ( the actual interception being made in pitch black darkness by radar ). The project may now be resurrected but it would be good to try and trace the Luftwaffe pilot who survived this interception and saw out the rest of WW2 in a POW camp.
Any ideas on how this can be done ? If anyone ones to exchange posts on "Catseyes" and his mainly Mosquito intercepts, I love to talk !
Incidentally, the Luftwaffe pilot categorically refused to accept that his fast and low raid could ever have been intercepted by any Allied aircraft, insisting all the time that he must have been brought down by lucky anti aircraft fire. John had to go and visit him in his POW camp in Yorkshire before he would ever accept the truth !!!
    Malladyne.
