if I may suzie,I'll add a thanksgiving poem..

    Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving...

Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep

I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.

The leftover beckoned - the dark meat and white

But I fought the temptation with all of my might.

    Tossing and turning with anticipation

The thought of a snack became inffatuation.

So I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door

And gazed at the fridge full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,

Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.

I felt my self swelling so plump and so round,

Til all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.

I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky.

With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie.

But I managed to yell as I soared past the trees.....

"Happy Eating to all, pass the cranberries, please!"

May your stuffing be tasty, may your turkey be plump.

May your potatoes 'n gravy have nary a lump,

May your yams be delicious, may your pies take the prize,

May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs!! ;):)

And a Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating this weekend. We had our Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday evening, and tonight attended a Tony Bennet concert - which was wonderful.

Yea we celebrate Halloween up here... We celebrate almost the same holidays as you guys "down there". Most are around the same time, it just may be a different holiday for us

    Nationally observed Holidays

    Jan - New years Day
Feb - Family Day... (In Ontario, not sure if it's a paid holiday throught Canada) celebrate the family

Mar or Apr. Good Friday - religious
    Easter Monday - religious

May - Victoria Day - Her Majesty's Birthday! It's nice to celebrate a dead Queen...

July 01 - Canada Day - Canada's Birthday (equivallent to Indpendance day)

Aug. Civic Day - Worker's day (equivalant to US Labor day)

Sept. Labour Day - another day for the worker

    Oct. Thanksgiving Day

Nov. 11 Remeberance Day - in memory of our Canadian soldiers lost at war. the day Canadians wear the commemorative poppy, even though I wear mine all year round. (equivalant to U.S memorial day)

(Schools are open and most businesses are open.. which I am absolutely against.. It is a day of mourning and remembrance.. everything should be closed!)

    Dec. 25 Chrstmas Day religious
Dec. 26 Boxing day... not really sure the purpose of that holiday.. I call it Shopping day.. It's equivant to the American Black Friday..only here it's a paid holiday

    Other holidays

    Valentines day
    groundhog day
St Patrick's day (in honor of our Irish canadians.. or just an excuse to go binge drinking!)

    April Fools Day
    Mothers & fathers day
    Halloween Day
    New Years eve

Most of our holidays fall on a Monday.. for example Easter monday.. The holiday is really on sunday, but it's recognized on the monday so canadians can have a long weekend. woohoo!!!

So there you go... There is one more thing you have learned about your neighbour to the north!

Oh and in case your wondering ... we don't live in Igloos nor have moose as pets!

And yes, we finish our sentences with eh.
    hehe, just kiddin'

    so uhh, take care eh...

Awww man, you messed it up. You were supposed to say "we don't have the 4th of July in Canada, that's an American holiday, eh." Then I would say, "what, Canadian calendars skip from the 3rd to the 5th?" At this point, everyone would laugh.

I pulled this one on an Englishman one night in one of the local watering holes in town. At first, he didn't think it was funny, then he lightened up. His buddy nearly fell off the stool laughing at him. Oh well, I guess you had to be there....

Sorry Sunny, but Remembrance Day is a statutory day off here in Saskatchewan. The schools and most offices are closed and it is only in recent times that stores have been open, although business is not always that brisk. For Manitoba, they are more restrictive Province of Manitoba: News Releases at one time it was a mandatory day off there without pay.

What, me serious? Never serious. Silly maybe, but not serious. Life is too short to be serious.
