    Harold 'Red' Steele
    (1914 - 2008)

    SHERWOOD - Harold D. "Red" Steele, 93, of Sherwood,Ohio died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Hicksville. Born June 21, 1914, in Paulding County, to Melvia (Cramer) and William Steele, he married Madonna Swary in 1936 and she survives.
    A World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy Seabees, he was a retired local No. 8 IBEW Electrician and the owner of Steele Electric in Sherwood.
    He was a member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church-Delaware Bend, Defiance Amvets Post 1991, Defiance VFW Post 3360 and the Farmer American Legion Post 0137.
    Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons, R. Philip (and wife, Paula) Steele of North Henderson, Ill., Ned (Alice) Steele of Hicksville and Kent (Martha) Steele of Delta Junction, Alaska; a daughter, Le Ann (and husband, Larry) Fritch of Ney; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Russel "Joe" Steele of Oakwood; and a sister, Mae Bieniek of Temperance, Mich.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frances Steele; two sisters, Olive Pessefall and an infant; three grandsons and one great-grandson.
    Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the St. Isidore Catholic Church-Delaware Bend, with Father Dave Tscherne to officiate.
    Burial will be at St. Stephen Cemetery, Defiance County, with graveside military rites will be performed by Sherwood VFW Post 5665.
    Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House and/or to the donor's choice.
