Has anyone else watched The Nazi Officer's Wife? This is an amazing story. There is a "root" of duplicity inside of it, but the justification for this makes one wonder whether or not if sometimes; "the ends justify the means" can be understood.
The movie (is that out) or the documentary? Neither on both but since Thomas Kretschmann is in the former I will! Thomas Kretschmann... Thomas Kretschmann...
The documentary is the one I am speaking of here. The "review/discription" runs thus (from Netflix): Narrated by Susan Sarandon, this well-crafted, compelling documentary from filmmaker Liz Garbus recounts the story of Austrian Jew Edith Hahn, a Viennese law student who survived the Third Reich by assuming an Aryan identity. Forced to flee Austria, Edith became a Red Cross nurse's aide in Munich, Germany, where she met an articulate Nazi party official named Werner Vetter and began a romance that led to an improbable marriage. I personally am impressed with the thing, sometimes hard to decide in my own head "what would I do?". If you get my drift.
Oooop, im cancelling my order for it only because of susan saran wrap being involved. I had not known that.
I watched it.. It was pretty good. It's an A&E Autobiography/documentary... It's the amazing survival story of Edith Hahn-Beer. She takes you though her survival story. Narrated by Susan Saranden. Sadly, Edith Hahn-Beer just passed away on March 17 of this year. She was 85. There is a movie currently in production right now with the same name which is set to be released for 2011. Suzie
Carl if your having doubts in ordering it, here is a clip of the first 9 minutes of it on YouTube. YouTube - The Nazi Officer's Wife -Edith Hahn-Beer's Story (1) Suzie
Come on Carl, she narrates some portions of the script is all. You never have to see her or anything. And her's isn't an "opinion" driven part, simply a narrator. It's a good flick, it wouldn't be better or worse without her involvement, it would be the same if your favorite female voice read the script.
Hi Clint, I just can't stand anything about her-just like I can't stand someone like sean penn or madonna, and oj simpson and such. It's difficult enough for me to have given tom cruise a chance by watching Valkyrie ;-))
Jeeze, did you not ever see The Witches of Eastwick because she was in it? That sounds rather silly. I don't have any use for Penn or Madonna either, but I don't NOT watch some of the movies they were in because they are in there. Madonna was fine in her role/part in the movie A League of Their Own, where I even liked Rosie O'D., and OJ was priceless in his Naked Gun roles. Great shows, and their contributions were pretty good. I didn't start to dislike Penn until long after I saw him in The Falcon and the Snowman, but even after that was understood, I don't dislike the movie because he is in it!
I know why Susan Sarandon's not on Carl's list... She was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show !! Don't feel bad Carl ... it terrified me too!! For those who never heard of the movie... DO NOT attempt to google it.. you WILL be traumatized for life! I'm warning you! hehe.. Suzie
but seriously don't let that discourage you from watching the nazi officer's wife.. It's a good documentary about the holocaust.. Susan Saradon only narrorates parts of it.. you'll forget who's narrorating and you'll be attracted to the story of Edith Hahn-Beer.. she was quite a woman.
Hi Suzie, thanks for the Utube link but, my computer doesn't allow me to access it for some reason? ;-)) Soon as I can give you more points ill owe you some for the effort ;-))
Hi Clint, I never saw that "Witches" movie but, I just can't stand her. As for sean penn. The only movies I ever liked him in were Bad Boys and Fast time At Ridgemont High. He IS a good actor but, I just can't stand him or his politics. Now hes sucking up to hugo chaves-just like that gap-toothed oliver stoned did. Ill never watch another movie that dog has its paws in. oj simpson was good in the naked gun movies, but ever since he killed Ron Goldman and his ex-wife (though we know how the trial ended) we know hes still guilty. I used to love watching him play football, and also doing those airport commercials, but, ever since those murders, i've had nothing for "The Juice." rosie o'donnel is another I loathe. The only thing I liked about Madonna, was way back when-when she was still good looking and before her radical transformation into a -well-slut. The thing I liked about her before that transformation, is that she looked a lot like the girlfriend I had at that time. Speaking of those I can't stand-add whoopie goldberg to the list. Tha chick had a mouth on her that someday someone in the audience is going to slap shut for her. It may seem as if I hate or dislike a lot in hollywierd-but that aint the case ;-)) Oh and, not to be too negative but I have to add, I can't stand tim tobbins either. He's the untalented hubby of susan saran wrap herself. Cheers Clint ;-)) PS, if those of today had any class like those of yesterday-then I might start liking more of them. People in hollywood that had class were those like: Duke, Gary Cooper, Charlton heston, Richard WIdmark, Sidney Poitier, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Burt Lancaster, and too many others like them to list. They didn't let their politics spill-over even though Heston and Jon Voight used to be on one side before coming "home". ;-)) I know that both Heston and Voight marched along with MLK-which is commendable, but, they were not silly like sean penn and those of his ilk.
Well, I don't care for a great number of today's actor's politics either, but if I allowed that to stop me from watching stuff my viewing list would be pretty short! Not caring for them as people doesn't stop me from enjoying them as actors. I rarely go to any "first run" movies at a theater, so I don't contribute too much to their incomes, but when I find a good flick on Netflix I feel I should share with the Rogues. You will hardly ever notice she is one of the narrators, since she only reads about 1/3 of the narration, and usually for deceased persons who couldn't be used for the obvious reason. Hardly intrusive.
Hi Suzie, Clint, Heh heh, Suzie, from that horrible pic of her-I can easily see that she would be a perfect choice for someone to play the role of nancy pelosi if a movie was ever made that featured that wierdo ;-)) Clint, my choices are not limited at all by boycotting people I consider assp-holes. I have thousands of older and classic movies to choose from as well as some -though few-more modern pics. Add to that, classic TV-and wallah, one doesn't HAVE to support certain h-wood personalities in order to have great entertainment ;-)) Theres plenty of older stuff I still have yet to see. Then filter in Foreign movies and-I have much more than I need that is available-that will last more more than one lifetime. Also, im in the process of starting to collect those Warner Bros Vault movies they just released some 404 or so of. There are at least 50 from that collection I want and need. Add to that, I still need to buy the WB Gangster Classics vols 1,2 and 4-which are at least another 18 movies. The above mentioned peoples BIG mouths, ruined any chance of my having and getting any entertainment from them. The one living exception is Martin Sheen-and we know hes as liberal as one can get.
