Hi there, I'm David from Kent, UK. Particular areas of WW2 interest for me are The Battle of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. I focus mainly on events occurring between D-Day and the fall of Berlin, although I'm starting to learn a bit about the North African Campaign. Cheers.
Allo Dave and welcome. Whereabouts in Kent? I'm down in Margate. Also consider the other place, it's more focused on Brit and Commonwealth.
Thanks everyone for all the replies! I'm very close to you actually, I'm from Herne Bay. I should also note that I'm 22 and the war is a relatively new area of interest for me. I hope that by joining this forum I will learn a lot from you all and will hopefully be able to offer some nuggets of information in return.
Hello David and welcome! I promise that if you return here, you most certainly will learn a lot and I am sure you will be able to offer a lot in return! Cheers!
That is close, same MP even. Have you been to either of the war shows in west Kent? We're rather spolit for it, they're the two biggest shows of their type in the world. War & Peace is the end of July and Military Odyssy is August bank holiday, I higher recommend them as they're packed with reenacters, and it's a much more hands on approach to history than museums.
I went to the War and Peace show at the Hop Farm last year for the first time and it was fantastic. As you say, there's lots of re-enactments and I thoroughly enjoyed the re-enactment of a typical Normandy skirmish. We do seem to have a lot down here relating to the war, but there again Kent played a big part. I like going to Hellfire Corner in Dover and even RAF Manston's small museum. Thanks for the heads up about Military Odyssey, I'll definitely be taking a closer look at that.
Welcome. Based on your name I assume you are a Rommel enthusiast. I have a pretty good picture of Rommel in North Africa (from the US National Archives) in the Black and White World War II Galleries section of my website. Just click on the link below. Hope you enjoy it.
