Hi Group, well I have some good stuff for this board today. In previous posts, you all helped with some medal questions of my Step Grandfather, Sgt. Edwin Hampton, 630th Tank Destroyer Co.C, 1942-1945, and I've connected with some great guys on a sidebar, have learned alot, thanks. I have taken some pix of his long stored militaria that has been in the proverbial file cabinet for many many years undisturbed, dusting them off and ID'ing them for a few Shadowboxes. I would like to know for each item, 1) what it is, 2)Who would have used it or been awarded it, and 3) how it was worn, esp. for the German items. For the US items, same info but we know #2 for those, (grandpa) But I'll take what I can get and be glad for it. I have all of Ed's papers, the 630th landed on Omaha Beach in July 1944 and was attached for the most part to the 28th Inf. Division with some side attachments along the way. Ed’s company, Co. C in particular was attached to the 112th Infantry Regiment, all the way to the end of the Rhineland Campaign. There were some attachments of B-C companies to 17th Airborne, but Co C also was attached to Recon, and Artillery Companies of the 28th off and on. Hopefully this info can help with the ID of the USA DUI with the lantern and Bomb that I can't figure out. I do know that the Progredior T-Rex DUI is the 630th TD, and what looks like a 2nd class iron cross awarded in WW1. The Belt buckle looks very interesting.... Anyway, thanks for the review any help is appreciated, enjoy. I am trying to figure out how to upload so please give me a few minutes.
Hi and assuming all is original, as it was vet bring back. The EKII is WWI type. The buckle is SS officers, mostly for the brocade dress belt, but probably used on leather or web belts as well. The ribbon is a long service, with an embroidered emblem for the Nasdap or civil service, sorry I cant be more precise on this. Jerry The medals would be worn only on special occaisions.
Your SS Officer's buckle is a transitional buckle made by the firm Overhoff & Cie (O&C ges. gesch). The RZM stamping alone or in 'isolation' as some collectors refer to it as, shows that Overhoff was in transition awaiting their RZM code from the Reichszeugmeisterei. The code ended up being '24'...so this buckle shortly after this period would have ditched the 'O&C ges. gesch' marking and gone with the RZM in a circle accompanied by the number 24 in a circle. This buckle dates back to 1933-1934 as the RZM started selling licenses in the middle of 1934. As a side note...the keep for this buckle is missing. The buckle should also be constructed of nickel. Rich
Thank you all, yes I was very surprised to hear about the buckle. Very good info on the transition portion. The buckle is untarnished and no corrosion, I was thinking silver at first but silver tarnishes, nickle makes much more sense. It makes a great spinner on my deep sea tackle rig, hope to catch a big one soon. Just Kidding!! LOL Any ideas on a source where to locate the unit DUI for the Lamp/Bomb in picture 1? Maybe I should try the Army Heraldry office....
Here's a link to DUIs. Look through and see if you an find anything that matches. Distinctive Unit Insignia DIs Over 1,000 to choose from The upper pin is for the 176 Tank Battalion. Mottos

No, I don't have a source. I located the 179th through the motto on the pin. I have not located any further info on the 176th.
