Hey guys, Great forum. I just found this place today and I love it!! I will be a regular here for sure.
My grandfather recently passed away, he was a veteran of WWII serving with the 83rd airborn and saw action in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and in Germany as well.
He brought back many peices of militaria (including 3 purple hearts that he sure did earn)
The things that I would like help identifying are the german pins that he brought back with him that we found in with all his military articles. I have attached a picture of the pins.
I know that the skull and crossbone is a totenkopf pin worn by the SS and that the small red and white diamonds are Hitler youth membership pins. All the others, I have yet to identfy. If you guys have any idea, please let me know.
I will also post pictures of the german pistol that he brough back as well in the very near future. Thanks everyone
Sorry, I just realized the pic is not very good

Don't you mean the 83rd Infantry Divison?

Can you post pictures of the rear of the items and close ups of any markings?

yeah, Duh...Sorry, Im so used to hearing people say 82nd airborn. He was in the 83rd Infantry, G company 329th, The "ThunderBolts"

Here is a pic of the backs. The only ones with markings are the one that I have identified already. The Deaths head has m1/52 on the back while the 2 red/white diamonds have m1/102 and m1/93 respectively

The silver eagle is an emblem that is used on the Army's caps. The Roundrel looks like the one used also on the army's caps surrounded by a wreath.

The other two I have not seen but the one eagle looks like a lapel pin.

    Oh wow Pz. Good find!
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the silver eagle and the Roundrel were. Looks like gramps might have come across a hat exactly like the one you posted and stripped it of all attachments. Thanks A TON man, two birds with one stone!!!! now I just need to find some info on the helmet pin and the shield with the ship on it.

Gilded eagle is Kriegsmarine sailor cap eagle, together with the cockarde, or the roundel however I thought they came onto the actuall eagle pin aswell. So if roundel not Kriegsmarine then police or civil servant occupation visor cockarde.

The cockarde is NOT an army visor cap cockarde, as they were embroided (like the photo in this thread of visor) or simply flat and in cloth.
The only army units I know of that used metal cockardes like this was the Reichswehr (inter war German army)

Silver one is indeed an army visor cap eagle.

2 tinnies (tinnies were made as fund raisers and sold to the general public)

    Hope it helps
And if wrong I appreciate corrections

    Regards

    Herr

The German Army helmet looks like one that was attached to a e photo album.

Also, as Herr gracefully pointed out, the guilded adler w/cockarde is the kind worn on Km "Donald Duck" caps as well as on Schiffchens-both Enlisted and Officers caps. I have one that was given to me by a Leitender (SP?) Engineer officer who served on a U Boat, and his overseas cap had the adler and Cockade on it ans is metal.

As hot visored caps, my one example is an Artillery Officers cap which had the metal eagle, wreath and cockade on it. This cap is all original and was the one I got w/ my Artillery Majors tunic.

Hey I tried. I did think of it as a pre-nazi roundrel but then saw the cap. Guess I did not take a closer look. At least we gave cmorg some answers. Thanks all.

Did not feel attacked. More of self criticism. I don't like making bad posts.
