Hi guys, Just started to do some research on my Grandad, Harold Eric Jones. I think ive found is Royal Artillery Attestation paper which gives his army number as 11426432. On the right hand side of the paper under 'Corps' it says '17/6/42 to 225 T/Regt LAA'. Then under that it says '207 T/Regt'. Im Trying to find out a history of the Regiment/Battalion he was in. We know he was a gunner, and served in North Africa and Italy, possibily part of the desert rats. I presume those numbers refer to his regiment? and LAA stands for Light Anti-Aircraft? Im just having trouble narrowing down his actual regiment as nothing seems to come up for 225 LAA or 207. But im quite new to researching this so might be barking up the wrong tree. Any help would be greatly appriciated ps will attach pic of attestation paper to this post thanks
Hi Adam, Welcome to the forums! You're right about anti-aircraft, but the 'T' stands for training- No 207 AA Training Reg, and 225 is listed as a Light AA Training Reg- http://www.ra39-45.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/trng/page7.html
Hello Adam and welcome I'm certainly not a Royal Artillery expert but it looks like they were training batteries? I think the 225 and 207 could refer to Batteries rather than regiments, but I am afraid I am not sure. You still need to find out which Regiment he was in. I suggest you register with our sister site at ww2talk.com. They have quite a few people who know a lot about the RA and I am sure someone will be able to help. I suggest you apply for his service records too https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records Lesley
wow thanks for the quick replies chaps....ah ok, so theT/225 and T/207 that the attestation paper refers to are the training regiments he was put into when he first signed up? So from that alone its not possible to work out which actual regiment he went in to? Thanks have signed up to ww2talk.com and will post there to see if anyone can help
Found out a bit more info last night which may help narrow down which regiment/battalion he was in.....my dad remembers him saying he was part of a group which called themselves the 'Rough Riders' and that he was initially based in London. Anyone know or heard anything about Rough Riders? thanks
bingo, think ive found it......11th (City of London Yeomanry) Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment. Anyone know if this regiments war diary is available online? Or any info on this regiment? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_London_Yeomanry_(Rough_Riders) http://www.ra39-45.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/laa/page5.html Thanks
