I'm a Air Force veteran and an Army brat. I'm also second generation Air Force but Mom was in the Luftwaffe. She was a "Funkerin". A radio operator with the Stukas on the Eastern Front. I grew up listening to her stories and became a World War Two historian trying to prove her wrong. Guess what? After almost forty years, most of what she said was true. Check that. All except one exception was true. That was her belief that the Holocaust was all Soviet propaganda. She went to her grave thinking Hitler was a good man. Like Nixon. He just had bad advisors. Dad joined in 1937. He rotated out of Schofield Barracks in November, 1941. He was sent to OCS at the beginning of WWII. At Anzio he was a 1LT and was wounded by artillery. I always say that he was on the Visiting Team at Anzio and my Uncle Hans was on the Home Team. They met in Hamburg in 1965 and Dad was real interested about where Hans was at Anzio. Being clipped in the leg and all. Fortunately, Hans was a driving a truck and was labeled by Dad as a "Good Kraut". My Mom always referred to the Russians as "Damned-Russians" like it was one one. When the Berlin Wall dropped I called Dad and said we were all patting each other on the back and smoking cigars. I asked him if this was like VE Day. He said, "No. It's like Christmas 1944 when the Krauts shot us through our Christmas turkey. They're not Soviets but will ALWAYS be Russians so never trust them". Yes, I have many, many stories. Walt
