Well, bought my copy via Gamersgate. Hate not having a 'hardcopy' option, but the game is downloaded and installed. Once I get up tomorrow, I'll be able to activate and play! Should be interesting.

lol, just got it? I'd be playing it all day except I don't have enough RAM (I switched to Windows 7 a couple months ago, stupid idea). Anyway I've since then been using HOI2 as a substitute.

I remember taking Norway over as Sweden by July '36. Took me until like Jan '38 in HOI2 even with cheats.

If one game is enough of a test, It looks like Japan should get stuck in China rather than sweep through like 1.4 or not at all like 1.1-1.3. Can now trade technology, but only with those countries already in your faction. So the UK can not trade with Germany for techs. Overall, not bad so far

It's absolutely fantastic so far. Every new feature works perfectly and really gives more depth to the game. And the most importantly, the AI seems to work thousands of times better than in 1,4. Enjoying it very much at the moment, so I don't have any spare time for anything else at the moment!

I was a bit dissapointed by the manual theater definiton. I was hoping to be able to create my own theaters, rather than just edit existing ones. (If it is possible to make new ones then my bad, but I have yet to figure out how to)

I think it is. You need to create a new Theatre HQ. Italy starts off with 3 (I think...maybe 4). You have to select the Theatre HQ in order to click the button that allows you to select the provinces for the Theatre. (Makes sense if you think about it).

Had a quick look before bed and it looks good, I will now have to start my game again though, or is it save game compatible? hmm will have to check.

I hope in the next patch/expansion they get rid of the Give Up or Fight On choices for NPCs when defeated, germany killed Denmark in my game and Denmark gave up so Germany automatically gained Greenland and made it impossible to fire off the "Occupation of Iceland" event as US since it requires Denmark to control Greenland, and when you think about it its not like over seas territories would just declare undying allegiance to the conquer of their home country.

Yes it is possible, works just like this and you can create hundreds of theaters if you like. This works like a dream.

Hey Matt I downloaded the Mod I.C.E the other day for Semper Fi, and it isn't too bad.

I have be saying for ages that they should put it more specialized units such as commando's, aux naval units, official SS units, MTB, national guard units, infantry tanks and in Germany's case 'Ground' Fallshirmjager's, Me 110's, and the Deutchland CA.

I always thought they kinda missed some units that played vital roles in the overall grand strategy of the war in all sides. Since some of them may have been more vital than others such as commando's from all sides, but then again there were those that were simply represented in numbers such as the ME 110, which was not in HOI 3.

The extra tech's a great too, I noticed that the 'theory' tech's now actually instead of just giving you a bonus in research also give you tactical abilities too, such as every level of artillery Theory researched you gain +1 Combat ability.

    It isn't too bad.

No, its pretty great actually. The specialized units are great - lower manpower but bonuses to terrain movement and attack. I like Airborne Engineers and Glider Arty/Tanks etc. Haven't played far enough to get them, but its much better then vanilla units. The events are especially good and add a more historical flavor (the forum mentions its supposed to be played historically up through 1941 before things go haywire like usual). The AI is smarter, the invasions are fun (German invasion of Norway was a shocker playing as the Allies). Graphics are more improved and it feels like a much more complete game.

They're still working on the mod too - like the additional little counters on units that tell you some pro/con of each units.

    It is certainly looking good

I have already restarted my German empire, since I gave up on the game for a while after my saved game problem, so my gaming time is split between HOI and Warhammer 40,000 II at the moment.
