If they turn it into a hotel, tourists may want to escape , you never know!

    Can't be worse than TraveLodge....:(

I must say, I'd quite fancy the idea of visiting Colditz. The name does have a certain ring to it.....

Maybe they should hire John Cleese and Connie Booth as advisors.

I went there last spring. very pretty town! We had a great tour of the castle, 15 euros a head, took 3 hours and saw the theatre, Bader's room and loads of other stuff you never normally see.

it's only a 2-3 hour drive from Sagan as well!

I would too. I stayed at a few places similar to Colditz-when Susanne and I were running around most of Germany back in 2000. ;-))

There are only three things I can see that would ruin a visit there:

    1) Having a McDonalds restaurant inside the Castle.
    2) Having an Internet Cafe there as well.
    3) Having John Ratzenburger as your Tour Guide ;-))

Why do they ALWAYS have to make such things out of such historical buidlings? I'm really pissed off at that.

What else were they meant to do with it?
    Leave it empty, in ruins?
At least a hotel makes money, which means the building will be looked after.
Why doe sit piss you off so much?

    Depends on your kids.......................

    Douglas Bader slept here. Boring?

All depends on your point of view. Want to entetain the kids? Try Eurodisney.

    Been there done that.
3 Kids between 11 & 5, hardened battlefield visitors, just 3 hours is a bit too much.
I wouldn't mind if we could do it at our pace, with me being the 'guide' just I'd not enjoy it if I dragged them around with a guide for 3 hours.

Rather than see where Bader was , I'd like to see where one of the Wilts officers was, as mentioned in this thread.

While you guys are out there enjoying the Colditz thing already ,the next stop might be the Wewelsburg in Büren-Wewelsburg near Paderborn ..its a youth hostel nowadays .. it would make an excellent small NAZI horror castle tour ..
Jugendherberge Wewelsburg (NRW) – DJH Jugendherbergen in Nordrhein Westfalen

    Not necessarily .
Half of the burg is a museum also , and offers include kids birthdayparties too including a Archeological schnitzel hunt ..(as can be read on the webpage below) .
Dont ask what it means or what they'll be doing with/to your kids

    Kindergeburtstag auf der Wewelsburg:
    - Archäologische Schnitzeljagd ???
    Wewelsburg

Better that, than tear them down and making them into parkinglots.
