    my dad was in ww2 in the first field artillery battallion how can i get his service records? thanks

    Please don't let this stop you from still submitting your request. I think it's important to let people know this so they don't give up on their search if they get any bad news. However, there are many success stories from intact files to staff rebuilding the files through what look like almost forensics work.

    If your dad's unit was a National Guard unit, there is a very good chance that state has duplicate copies of his enlistment papers and unit rosters and etc...
