I've had this for a while and I still don't quite know what part of the German military it came from, can anyone help me? sorry for the quality of the photos, on the back it says, "23 GES.GESCH".

Its not military but is a German veterans visored cap eagle. I had one sometime ago and gave it to a friend.

    Ges Gesch-sorta means-Patent Pending.

Hi Heinrich, nope, its a visored cap adler ;-)) They had three prongs on them and looked like the one Ray showed a photo of. I had one in mint condition (dont know why I ever bought it to begin with?) and it definately was not a tunic adler pinback ;-))

    Curved or bent ?
Let me put it like this ..cap eagles have prongs wich are bent after the prongs were stuck through the caps belt ...a breast eagle has a needle ..simplest way to make a differentiation ..but im 100% shure this one is not a cap eagle .
besides: a cap eagle is a bit smaller in size too ..

[IMG]the second one is a 3 prongs caps badge
Google around a bit ..the veterans organisations name is the 'Kyffhauserbund'.

reason is simple ..an eagle on a needle will not stay in same centered place in use , prongs do . Does look like an original though ..and as breast eagles being more expensive than the visor cap eagles you did a good buy anyway Panzer ... Thanks for the salute Ray :D

Ok, but it is kind of weird that it is curved, it looks as if it were ment for a cap.

I think it propably was put on a cap before or so ..happens more often ,had something similar with a lw eagle wich was found on a cap where it didnt belong , was a bend breast eagle too . Dont worrie too much about that .
Like i said , i think its a good original and thats already a good thing as these are also offered in repro nowadays . If you read the description some dealers sites give for these eagles its no that strange some end up on old black caps too ..BTW a kyffhauser visor cap can be picked up from up Euro auction sites ..mosttimes the eagle isn't removed or like in the pic have a wreath instead of the eagle .
These caps are very recognizable as the black band on there has the kyffhauser denkmal logo woven into the fabric too , would not cost you too much .

Veterans organisation ,saw its not well descrided in english on wiki ..
Comparable to a modern union , but with reservist activities and sports shooting clubs .Then also politics .A special dept being NSKOV for invalides (kriegsversierhten)
Found this for you in english : Deutscher Kriegerbund - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kyffhauserbund still exists today btw :Kyffhäuserbund e.V.
