Does anyone know any Japanese war movies and, perhaps more importantly, where to get them? Preferably with English subtitles. I've heard about one, made during WWII, about a fighter squadron, which sounds particularly interesting to me. But I don't even know it's name.
I saw one on TV some years ago. It was called "Zero" and was about the Zero figther, a pilot and a mechanic. It started when the 2 friends entered the Navy, and ended with 1945. The aerial battles in it were much too obviously fought by scale models tough....
I recently found out that there is a movie from book called "Fires on the Plain" from Shohei Ooka. I read that book when I was a teenager (used to read alot back then). That film is called, ofcourse, "Fires on the Plain" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053121/ Original title was "Nobi"
Decided to fiddle a bit with IMDB search engine 203 kochi A, zerosen (this might be the film Castelot mentioned Aa, kaigun Ah himeyuri no to Ah kaiten tokubetsu kogetikai Ah, yokaren Akai tenshi Akatsuki no dasso Anatahan Arion Azumi And that is only a list of movies starting with number or letter A... I've never seen any of those and have no idea where to get any of those. Maybe some japanese moviestore?
From memory, there is a movie called "I Bombed Pearl Harbor," (or something like that), and one about the ace Saburo Sakai, and also a movie about the Yamato (made in the early '50s, I believe). I've never seen any of these, but I recall reading about them in some article or book.
there notoriously boring , i can tell you that much , and they make horohito look like a gentle peace loving man
Thank you for your help fellows! And sorry for my delayed response. I simply forgot about this thread. Notmi, how did you find all those titles ? And btw, I believe the movie I mentioned in my first post had the word 'sentai' in it.
Go to http://www.imdb.com/list and choose search parameters. I probably just put put "Japan" to country of origin and clicked search
