Does anyone know any Japanese war movies and, perhaps more importantly, where to get them? Preferably with English subtitles.

I've heard about one, made during WWII, about a fighter squadron, which sounds particularly interesting to me. But I don't even know it's name.

I saw one on TV some years ago.

It was called "Zero" and was about the Zero figther, a pilot and a mechanic.
It started when the 2 friends entered the Navy, and ended with 1945.

The aerial battles in it were much too obviously fought by scale models tough....

I recently found out that there is a movie from book called "Fires on the Plain" from Shohei Ooka. I read that book when I was a teenager (used to read alot back then).

That film is called, ofcourse, "Fires on the Plain"
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053121/

    Original title was "Nobi"

From memory, there is a movie called "I Bombed Pearl Harbor," (or something like that), and one about the ace Saburo Sakai, and also a movie about the Yamato (made in the early '50s, I believe). I've never seen any of these, but I recall reading about them in some article or book.

Thank you for your help fellows! :)

And sorry for my delayed response. I simply forgot about this thread.

Notmi, how did you find all those titles ?

And btw, I believe the movie I mentioned in my first post had the word 'sentai' in it.
