Hello, I do research of an nephew of my great-grandmothers husband, Kurt Werner. I searched on Ancestry and found his registration records. He was Corporal in the USMC, 6th 155 mm Howitzer Battalion. So I looked up for informations of his unit but I´d not find any informations, only this Battalion was in the pacific. Can you help me? Regards from Germany, Niklas,

Guten Tag....there couldn't have been ''many'' 155mm units with the USMC, I would think, as say air and infantry...that's heavy cargo, so getting places would not be easy....there are some super smart people here..hopefully they can help...I've tried looking for records, and sometimes I got different information...and, I would love to visit Deutschland sometime ..I could be wrong, but seems it takes ''special'' landing conditions and equipment.....I mean it's not like a 75mm.
Yes it must have been hard to manhandle 155's onto beaches. Well the National Archives Online Public Access website lists war diaries for the 6th 155mm from February to November of 1945. http://research.archives.gov/search?sw-arc-id=620254&sw-desc-level=series&expression=6th+155mm&pg_src=brief&data-source=archival-descriptions# You will have to contact them for copies. http://www.archives.gov/contact/
Gordon Rottman's book ''USMC WW2 order of Battle'' mentions the 155mm battalions and gives dates and places, I think
Thank y´all for the informations! Bronk, I can recommend a visit in Germany, I´ll love visit America too Regards
