Hello, my grandfather died before I could ask him anything about his time in WW2. His name was Chris Davis. He was from Ohio and to the best of my knowledge, he was in the 37th Division, Ohio National Guard. I have also been told he may have been in the 140th Field Artillery Battalion, Company B or the 159th Field Art. Batt.

I know that it may be difficult for me to get any information about him, but it is very important to me. If anybody knows where I should look or has any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

He was a medic, and served at Guadalcanal and Bougainville. He may have been in other places as well, but those are the only two places that I know about.

    Thank you.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. This link should give you a good beginning at getting your grandfathers records. The records will confirm what unit he was in.The most important thing when applying for your grandfathers records is a service number--do you happen to have his separation papers? You should be able to do a Google search for the 37th Division and also the 140th & 159th FA. Acording to Stanton, the 135th, 136th and the 140th FA battalions were attached to the 37th Division. The 159th was attached to the 2nd Cav. and did see action at Luzon so there might be a connection. The 37th did fight at Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and in the Phillipines, landing at Luzon so you have some good information on this. Post again and tell us how your doing and if you need further help. Good luck Requesting Copies of Military Personnel Records
