I am trying to find out more about service record of my Mom's cousin, Thomas Mittasch. He was in Navy during World War II. I think he enlisted in 1942 in Queens, N.Y. He discharged in 1945. He was on U.S. Chester, He was on it for 17 months. He was suppose to be at Battle of Coral Sea. Needing to find out more about his service record and battles and rank. He died in Florida May 1997. Thanks for any advice. dg

In followup to my original post, I guess what I need is information on History and any roster lists for U.S.S. Chester. I have tried google but don't come up with actual history or an Association that could have list. I like to prove dates my Mom's cousin on ship. Thanks for any sites or who to contact. dg

The decklogs and other material related to Chester would be located at the National Archives in College Park, MD. You may be able to get more information by contacting them via the web or visiting the Archives in person.
