My wife and I saw it yesterday afternoon. I was very impressed with it. Personally, I think it is the best film of the three. I read that the New York Film Critics Circle picked ROTK as their best picture of 2003. Surprising since they usually go with the independent, artsy movies. But when they do go with the blockbusters, the chosen film has gone on to win the Oscar for Best Picture (Silence of the Lambs; Schindler's List). So ROTK is the odds on favorite for the Academy Award.

Peter Jackson and crew did a magnificent job in bringing such a complex story to life on the screen in spite of some changes he made to story. (I have read LotR once every year for the past 25 years.)

I look forward to November 2004 when the extended version will be released on DVD. And I do hope that New Line Cinema will be able to acquire the rights (currently owned by another studio) to "The Hobbit" so Jackson can get started on that one!

I remember my wife reading the tales in full some 20 yrs ago to my kids. We have both extended version CD's and look forward to this Sunday afternoon. No lines please !!!!!!!

Incidently can you imagine what 2004 and beyond will bring as the graphic figures will become widespread to all action movie directors. I visualize some great Napoleonic charges now.......

I hate it when the kids and wife have an edge as they are fanatics about these films and books. For me ah well I'll enjoy the Kühl graphics which there are many of. Think we have seen the 2nd DVD at leat 35 times  and am sure we will see it saturday morn before the eve's event.

OTF enjoy the flick !!!!!!!!

Looking forward to seeing it at 17.00 on this Friday evening...

Spent last weekend at a friends house to brush up on previous movies by watching part 1 and 2 extended versions. Having read the books too many times to mention I was a bit miffed with the Two Towers in some places, as it diverted from the books in seemingly uneccessary places. But from all the reviews and comments I've seen, the King suffers from none of those woes.

Bet I'll be a happy camper this evening, and we'll probably go out for a few pints to wind down!

"they come in pints? I'm getting one..."
    -Pippin.

I hope you enjoyed it, Heartland. I'm still cracking up over Gimli and Legolas's competitions.
I was ashamed to see that Tom Bombadil wasn't in the first movie. I was looking forward to seeing him. :(

I hear you Ike talking about Tom, I was very much frustrated when he didn't appear in the first one.

For anyone out there who hasn't seen the Two Towers Extended, that's a definte must see. The extended version just makes it flow so much better and brings alot more of the book in to play, although don't expect too much. It's very enjoyable though. ;)

I was hoping in the extended version to see a bit more of the trees unleashing their wrath against the Uraqui(sp) but oh well. thought Gimli too had a couple of corny lines mid-way.

think I will wait for the make of the Silmarillion......

I agree with those of you that have seen it, it is definitely a brilliant movie. But it was a bit slow in the beginning and had too many false endings...making it the weakest of the three. That being said...the battle scene made Saving Private Ryan look like a pillow fight. And I too am still blown away by the shear epic proportions of the movie. Best of luck to Peter Jackson and the crew at the Oscars!

well the flick was intense from the very start and several scenes were omitted for various reasons.......heck sitting through a 3 1/2 hr movie without taking a pee was enough, but the film seemed to flow rather quickly in my opinion. Definately will have to buy the multi-DVD extended to see the 'left out' scenes and be able to stop action for better viewing. As Das Reich said the sheer enormity of the battles was something else

My heart is still beating very, very hard!!!   I just can't believe how impressive it was! And Das Reich is right, "Saving Private Ryan" looks silly compared to this battles... Awesome!

Not to mention that I ended with humid eyes and crying on my boyfriend's lap at the various emotive scenes at the end...

Well I agree with you guys on the amazing scenes of battle that were in there but to compare it with Private Ryan, I don't know about that. Watch P.R. again and see how intense the battles are in that, esp. the opening scene. [IMG] Also to add, remember Private Ryan, most of that movie actually happened, to put things in perspective.

I agree with you there, OTF ...what gave the opening scene of SPR it's powerful impact to me, was the realisation that actual men had to actually go though this....

You're both right about that. The difference with "Saving Private Ryan" is that it actually happened and real men died there. But I was talking about it as a film with stunts, special effects and cameras...

Really do not think the two films can be compared. had the Private Ryan producers had the technical know-how and backing like L of the Rings did, who knows what we may have seen. Surely more US or RAF ground attack runs........in any case the door is wide open now for huge massive infantry and cavalry charges aka Napoleonic "let's ride!"
