Ludington resident seeks honor for the late Matt Urban

Kevin Braciszeski - Daily News Staff Writer

Matt Urban earned 29 medals — including the Medal of Honor — during World War II, the same number as acclaimed hero and movie star Audie Murphy (depending on which list you see). But veteran Richard Pearch of Ludington noted a difference between the two.

“Mr. Urban is the most decorated combat veteran in United States history,” Pearch said Wednesday, adding that Murphy earned at least one medal, the Good Conduct Medal, for his conduct as an enlisted man before beginning combat duty.

Hi Ray, there is a fine point between both men and who deserves the title. I remember someone telling me sometime ago that the Light Colonel actually got a couple of his awards retroactively. However, I dont have any proof of if that is true or not? If it is? then he cant take Murphs title away from him.
