I am here because my dad Herbert Stivers age 81, was a US army Honor Guard at The Nuremberg War Crimes Trials as well as a guard in side the prison. You can read his 2005 story as well as his recent one with The San Bernardino County Sun Telegram here in Southern California on the front page 2 days ago 4-24-2008. Just "Google" his name in "Herbert Stivers" and all the articals will come up. His story is true and he broke his silence after 60 years. He was on the front page of the L.A. Times and Anderson Cooper told his story on CNN in 2005. The story was in every major newspaper in the world. He just had to get this off his chest because you never now how long you have at age 81. Although he is in good health and has a very shape memory he wants as many people who will listen to know the truth. And finally this long lost piece to an international puzzle has been solved. I am his daughter and I love my dad very much. I am so proud of all you US soldiers who put your lives on the line so long ago for this country. You are all deeply appreciated more than you will ever know. God bless you all Linda
Hello there and welcome to the forums. I posted the story about your father here . You may want to check out the thread I created about it. http://www.ww2f.com/wwii-today/23551-wwii-vet-believes-he-delivered-cyanide-hermann-goering.html
Thank you so much for posting the thread about my dad Herbert Stivers. That was very kind of you. I had no idea how to do it because I am new here. Again, I thank you! Linda
My Pleasure. I found it interesting enough and thought I would post it and see what others here thought about it.
Thanks Lynn, for posting here in this forum. I am a moderator for this forum. Would Mr Stivers be willing to visit here and talk to us, or talk to us through you? I can assure that he will face no ridicule or badgering. We don't have to talk about the trial if he doesn't want to, just his war-time experiences, the floor is open to him. If he does not, for whatever reason, we understand.
Hello Linda and welcome. I confirm what slipdigit just said. One reason would be an opportunity to say "Thank you" for having fought for liberty.
G'day mate and welcome to the this very fine forum. If what slipdigit is ok, that would be great, he can start his own thread and share his thoughts with us.
Welcome, Linda! Glad you could join us!! I too would love to hear more from your father, either directly or through you. Please tell him Thank you for his service from me! Thanks!
hello Linda from another woman here on this forum who is new I have read David Irving's Goering biography and he mentions your father there. Interesting to meet you, hope to chat more if you like. Kate
So sorry that it took me so long to respond to your message but I got lost in here and couldnt find my way back to new members area. Yes, my dad will tell you anything you want to know. He is Herbert Stivers, the WWll veteran who delivered the cyanide to Reich Marshall Hermann Goering. Linda
I am actually going to get up and retrieve this book and look up the guard he mentions.Jack G.Wheelis is the guard that Irving mentions most prominently as the one who possibly supplied Goering with the cyanide capsule. A search of the books alpabetized appendix reveals no Stivers listed. what does this mean? possibly nothing. I am intrigued at the idea of knowing the truth though. feel free to write to me with more details.
