Here's an impressive leader we lost in WW 2. From everything I read, Rose was one of our best. Patton got the headlines, Rose directed the troops. Rose served in WW 1 with the 89thID and was wounded in France. During WW 2 he led the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Armored Divisions. He was a leader that stayed at the front lines to better direct the battle. His 3rd Armored set the record for modern warfare by advancing over 100 miles in a day. He was a brilliant strategist, with a photographic memory, and cool as a cucumber under pressure. If it matters... He was Jewish, the son and grandson of Rabbi's. He was KIA on March 30, 1945, at the front lines, 5 weeks before the war ended. Had he lived, during post WW 2 years this man may have served on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, or led us in Korea. He would have been a rising star based on his service. Some additional information for General Maurice Rose: He is burried at the Netherlands Memorial and Cemetary in Margraten, at this cemetary he is the highest ranking officer burried overhere. The elementry school in Margraten is named after him. He was shot in the head by a German officer after (trying to) surrender. At first the grave was marked with a star of david, because Rose was the son of (Polish) Jewish immigrants. After some time it was corrected when it became clear that he became a Catolic.
