A fine article, eight pages long, of the responses to the Economic Recovery Program (Marshall Plan) after one year in application. This is from the April 11th, 1949 Time magazine.

"America's answer to the challenge facing the free world!"—so President Harry Truman had trumpeted at its birth in April 1948. In a tremendous twelvemonth, EGA had primed the pump of European recovery, pushed ahead through Communist attacks and sabotage, plucked 270 million people from the brink of chaos and despair.

Always good to see contemporary opinions on this.
    Thanks, Clint.

As Mr brndirt1 knows the date of the start of the SCW , It may interest: A clasic Spanish film (comedy) about Marshall Plan here.

    "Bienvenido Mr Marshall"

Trailer in YouTube In spanish, still no google translator for that.

Well, thanks to Franco here there was no Marshall Plan.
Till 1953, so... Rota - Morón - Even then, Spain fought out worse than the rest of Europe, there were no gifts, but loans with interest.

Fortunately Franco replaced the Falange idiots and the crap on directed economy, (you won a civil war against socialists for that?) with technicians and something resembling a free economy. So the effort wasn´t in wain. A lesson for current days?
