Hi all, I'm new here and figured this would be a good place to get some help for a question I have. I purchased a WWII medal at an antique store this morning. It is a WWII Victory Medal, but the ribbon is not the usual rainbow pattern (see attachment below). I was wondering if either this was some sort of distinguished medal or if somebody had tampered with it and changed the ribbon. Hope I can find an answer here.
Someone most likely added a ribbon to this piece to make sure it sold. I have both of my Dads and Grandfathers WWII Victory Medals-in the dustbins of my collection ;-))
Yeah, that's what I figured. I have a regular WWII victory medal as well, but saw this and thought it was interesting for the $3 I paid. I also have my grandfather's army of occupation medal as well as a few others that I have to find.
The only thing I'm still wondering is what the ribbon is actually from. I can't find anything that looks even remotely similar to it.
Not sure on the ribbon though I do recognize it. It looks more like some kind of a Campaign ribbon??? but im not sure as collecting American stuff isnt my field of interest-the German stuff is ;-))
