Medals belonging to the pilot who made the first live drop during the Dambuster raids up for auction | Mail Online

Medals belonging to one of the most important members of the Dambusters team who made the first "live drop" of the bouncing bomb are to be sold by his family.
Squadron Leader Maurice "Shorty" Longbottom flew on the practice runs and was the trusted colleague of Barnes Wallis who invented the famous explosive device.
Along with Longbottom's medals, a logbook in which he recorded key bombing raids and the pin he pulled to release the bouncing bomb are included in the Remembrance Day auction along with other mementoes from his flying career

Wow! The (pic of the) pin sure is interesting as well:

"The crucial pin: The release of this pin sparked the first 'live drop' of the bouncing bomb."
