Could somoene help me to identify these: 1)German driving school pins from the 30s These were carried by German youths. 2) A german Fireman pin from Baden Würtenberg 3) a swiss medic pin, Zürich made Hope you can help If you don't know that's okay, I also posted these because you don't see these everyday ,so it's also a pleasure to share unusual things
Hi Skipper, i've never seen any of these before but, they sure are an interesting lot to look at. Sorry I don't know anything about civilian stuff.
Actually the road pins may be scout pins (before the Jugend ) and the Swiss Medic sign is military. It's also the first time I saw those. I thought it would be an ineresting addition to my collection.
Glad to see you add to your collection. I found a site that has a German Army Chaplians Collartab for sale. It's a single and is going for $150.00 but, I normally don't care to spend money on singles. But since these are ultra rare-I might buy it anyway.
I'm still mulling it over on that collar tab. I found another site that has a pair of Chaplins Dress Tabs for sale-for way way too much. I think they wanted something like $375 Euros for it. In Case they don't know it, dress tabs aint that expensive-though rarer-im surprised they aren't. A few years ago, I saw a single shoulderboard for sale, that was of a Leutnant from the 44th Infantry Division-with it's Stalingrad Cross on it. I think it was priced at $350.00 or more? Anyway, as it was a single board, I passed it by. Iv'e been regreting it ever since and have been kicking myself. The 44th Inf Div was destroyed at Stalingrad, and it's cadre (and few survivors) of Officers and Ncos and men, were taken out of the battle and used as the cadre when the division was to be re-built. These are the fellas who had the Stalingrad Cross insignia on their shoulderboards. If I also recall, the board single that I saw for sale, also had a dress boards cross afixed to it. Those have a dark blue enamelling to the cross while the field boards had sky-blue painted crosses. Im sure I will regret not buying that tab but, they still come up for sale on occasion so im sure i'll see more.
A missed oportunity, but there is so much more militaria to buy. What I like with this is that there is so much which is unidentified, yu can find nice things for a small budget or invest fortunes if you can afford it, no need to be rich, as rich and poor can find treasures. It's not like a stamp collection when you need a certain stamp and will have to invest to get it. A militaria collection will NEVER be complete, so there is less frustation about not getting one item, as many more opportunities will pop up. each new opportunity will be another challenge.
Hi Skipper, that's a great way of looking at collecting. I kinda started on that same trend myself-by streamlining my collection in one direction-strictly Army-unless I can get something cheaply that's well-worth it. About two years ago that opportunity happened to me when I bought from another collector, a nice maker-marked Luftwaffe Ground Assault badge-making three LW awards I have. Now a big collection but??
Hi Skipper, I was lucky when I got these LW badges. That Pilots Badge I have is maker-marked by the firm of Assmann-and you can easily tell that my badge is an early-war made badge with a heavy content of silver-nickel. This badge is absolutely beautiful. I knew a guy who had two of most every badge, and I bought a few from him-then he moved out of town somewhere thanks to a new job he got. Anyway, this was about 9-10 years ago, and even then, I still paid $350.00 for that badge-which I thought high but....... The next one I got was a LW Flak Artillery badge-which I got a several years ago at a local militaria/gun show. I think I got it for about $100.00? I forgot to mention that I also have a rarer LW Narvik Shield-which I also got several years ago for about $75 bucks. Other than these, that's all the Luft stuff I have anymore-cept for two pairs of Hauptmanns Collartabs. I sold off the rest of my Luft stuff about 2 yrs ago.
A Narvik shield for 75$! That's a real winner. You will certainly not find those anymore at such a small price. Your collection must be impressive, not to mention your Imperial items.
Hi Skipper, and thanks for the nice comments ;-)) At the time I bought the LW Narvik Shield, I also bought the Kriegsmarine example as well. I THINK I paid $75.00 for that one too. After I got those, I got a nice Army Krin Shield-but I know I paid too much for it then-but it is a nice one for: $150.00. All three of these shields are complete w/ their paper & wool backings as well as all have all of their prongs and metal backing plates. I'd like to get a few other shield too, but never actively looked for any. Im hoping to get a Demjansk and a Kuban shield sometime in 2009 ;-)) I feel my collection is OK in size - one can never have enough ;-)) but i'll be adding to it shortly-some OFW boards-a 1939 EK2 w/ Austrian-style tri-fold ribbon-making this example the 2nd 1939 EK2 w that style ribbon in my little collection, a LW photoalbum that an Army guy used and has his pics in it, and a complete set of all three grades of Imperial Wound Badges. Oh and I almost forgot-thanks to you, three cool French Medals. When I get back to Houston, i'll gleen my collection for anything you might like in return, and let you know what they are. I wish my Imperial collection was bigger but, I haven't added much to the collection in about 4 years with the exception of a few ribbonbars, and a Flandern Cross w/ Mini Flandern Cross-and these Imperial Wound Badges soon to arrive ;-))
Hi Skipper, will do. I think the Wound Badge set, and the LW photoalbum has already been sent-so I should get these in hopefully in the next several days. WHen I can, i'll even make copies of the pics in it and you can post them if you want? My EK w/ trifold-should be here in a week. I'll find out tonight if he's already mailed it or not? I might be putting a Uboat War Badge on "layaway" with a friend of mine. If I do, this one is going to take awhile for me to get paid off-unless I trade him some Luftwaffe stuff for it? ;-))
