Got a bunch of military records from the Canadian archives today. In it was a photocopy of the card as follows: Now, all records indicate that this fellow (L J Warner) is buried in Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery. The card says reburied. Now, I understand that he was buried ASAP as soon as he was found, and moved to Groesbeek after 1947 and given a tombstone and a final resting place with other Canadians that were killed in the Netherlands? Is that right? He died, for the record, April 11, 1945 at the town of Snipplig. Was considered missing for a while. The official report reads as follows: The a/m Rfmn ws told to go forward to contact and pass a message to the forward platoon . He was not seen again. It was later found out that the forward platoon had been surrounded by the enemy so it was presumed that he was taken prisoner. I have a newspaper article that says by Nov. 1945 he was officially presumed Killed. Anyway any insights into the cemetary card?
Hi Pwwbear, I am glad you got the records of him! Your assumption is right. According to the card, he was reburied at Groesbeek (date unknown) but that he was originally buried in July 1946, probably in/around Snippeling. I guess that in the meantime (between Nov. 1945 and July 1946) his body was found and buried in Snippeling in a field grave. I will try and see if the local archives have any information on that. The other dates on the card refer to administrative duries performed regarding the missing in action status of Rlfm Warner, it seems, like a letter to the family in Nov.1945.
Thank you for the confirmation. It was a sticky point with me, and I wanted some confirmation before I turn the records over to the family.
