Hi guys. This is my first post on this board. I've lurked here for a while. My Grandmother recently gave me my Grandpa's old WW2 scrap book.

I was wondering if anyone can give me any information on the units he served with. I've tried google but have not been able to find much info.

Here are the units he served with:

1st Army: 507th MP Co "C" (England, France, Belgium)
XIX Corps: 817 MP (Holland, Germany)
    XXIII Corps: 817 MP (Germany)
He also played baseball for the 90th MP

I am mainly looking to find what battles he fought in and what role he played in the war. Mainly where he was and what battles he was in.

Here is what I do know:

He landed on Omaha, Red Easy (I dont think he landed until D+3) He has pictures labeled Mortain "Moving First Army after breakthrough"

There are also pictures from Bastogne (I also have propoganda labeled "Dropped on US soldiers during Battle of the Bulge, Picked up in Hurtgen Forest") and Eindhoven. Did his units fight these battles or did he just pass by at a later date and take pictures.

Any information will be helpfull. I will try to post some of the pictures I have later.

    Welcome Aboard!!!

I would assume that your Grandfather saw little action, beings that MP's weren't needed in areas until they were secure. That's not to say that he didn't see any action. I am sure during the seige of Bastogne everyone saw their far share.

It appears he was near the front, so I will further assume that he handled German POWs and most likely stood watch for the "Red Ball Express". All in all I am sure he had quite a varied and important experience during the war.

Post pics if you get the chance.

    Brad

    PS Damn You Skipper!!!

Like the guys above said, he probably did not see combat action as would an infantryman, but that doesn't mean he did not all, given the places you mentioned. There are isolated instances of MP units finding a fight brought to them.

Units that are that small are going to be very difficult to find and follow, as they were not definatively attached to a large organization like a regiment or division, who's movements are well known.
