    I suppose they use a modern diesel to save money and gas. Also if the previous engine was destroyed they would have a hard time to find spares. The aim is to get the tank ready for the 70th anniversary of the liberation this august.

    Restoration progress (sorry for the translation...) :

    Char No. 22 of the 2nd Co. of 501st RCC

    This tank was destroyed by 4 armor piercing 57mm (1 ricocheted) in Ecouves forest, August 12, 1944 in the evening, after having participated in the liberation of Alençon, killing the help pilot gunner "Wiciński".
    The sherman has burned (interior and exterior) and exploded with ammunition, tearing the weakest armor, floors and wings.

    End of the planned restoration : August 11, 2014 !

    Displacement : Alençon / Versailles 30 January 2014
    Détourellage : January 31 .
    On February 1, removal of engines destroyed by explosions, fires and rust. They will be exposed to Alençon .
    February 3 : the gearbox, differential, brakes, gearboxes are permanently blocked. Everything is completely seized and rusted gears and bearings. Fire gained within the full mechanical oil (120 liter) by a brake flap torn following explosions .
    When cleaning, February 5 , Pierre found in the rust under the gearbox, the identification plate from Wiciński driver ( WICINSKY ?) Died August 12, 1944 .
    February 7 : cutting armor torn .
    February 15 : half of the rollers are removed. Stripping layers rust ( 1cm average) electric chisel within continues.
    February 19 : stripping continues , discovering 24 groussers in the rear armored coffers. Original storage location .
