Sorry for such a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong title but, just thought I would give war movies fans a big heads up on literally a ton, of war movies soon to be-or just recently released on DvD. Ill start the ball rolling with one movie at a time. This movie is one that ive waited for many years to be released at least on VHS or DvD for the USA. Anyway, if any of you are fans of: Michael York and or Anton Differing? you will like tha fact that just a few days ago and unknownst to me till just this morning-that a very good WWI movie was just released to DvD for the first time. Im a fan of both of the Actors listed and also a fan of this movie. Anyway, ill quit stalling and tell you what the title of said movie is that was released back on or about July 9th. The movie starring Michael York and Anton differing is: "Drumroll Please".......................................... the movie is--Zeppelin. Now, im currently only able to access that website that has bunches of these movies listed for recent or soon to be released classic war movies to DvD. As im using 15 minute timed computers to try to access this stuff and write it own, I can only copy the names of so many of them. Ill post more names tomorrow. Anybody who reads this, I want you to sweat it out a bit on what titles that are or are already-released but are not widly known as such   PS, dont ask what source this is coming from, if I tell you? well, lets just say that your fate is in YOUR hands because of your curiosity
Does it include.... Oh What a Lovely War Joyeaux Noel No Drums No Bugles Stalag 17 The Mackenzie Break Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall The Bridge All Quiet on the Western Front (German Language version) ????
I am more concerned when some of these titles are going to be available on Blu-Ray. I've stopped buying DVD's...if you own a 1080P television you owe it to yourself to buy a Blu-Ray player.
It has a couple of the ones you listed but, those have been on DvD for several months to several years. The ones im talking about are either so rarely shown or not shown in many year and decades and or were not huge movies but still are worthy because of their content. I copied down only the titles I was intereste in so after I get them posted here, the total will be only about 1/2 or so of the ones coming out. Noel, S/17, The MacBreak, Die Bridge and All Quiet.... all have been out on DvD for years now. Stalag 17, was one of the first DvDs I ever bought as was both the 1930 version and TV remake of All Quiet On the Western Front. Oh and, most of the titles I will be listing, most here will have never heard of them. This of course will include a few foreign made movies that I THINK are dubbed in English. Some come from Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Czecholslovakia and I think Poland. The movies will not be crappy ones like those you will see with Klaus Kinski in them. Oh and, for fans of Klaus-I noticed at least one of the releases does have him in it-but I read the ssketch about the movie and thought it sucked so I didnt write it down. The movies I picked, are ones that I believe most of ya here will like and are of interest because of subject matter as well as star-power. One movie I had hoped to see listed as a release was: Kapo. Besides Stalingrad, Kapo is a top-notch foreign language war movie and is a MUST see if you ever have the chance?
Hi RR, I doubt many of the ones ill be listing will make it to blueray-or anytime soon? But then again, whadda I know? ;-)) Speaking of blueray. I saw a blueray movie at a friends house and I couldnt tell the diff between it and DvD. I have well over 500 DvDs-just bought the first season of Tour Of Duty just this afternoon-so-im not going to invest in blue ray-unless every title I have now and will get-will be on blueray and also only if someone else pays for the blueray titles.
Heres tonights newly released war title: The One That Got Away w/ Hardy Kruger as LW Ace: RKT Lt, Franz von Werra. I was going to list another title but I forgot my notes and will not have access to them till tomorrow morning. Oh and if any of you are Western movies fans? just wait till I tackle that list. Most of these you will never heard of, or even their main star for that matter, but the movies will still be good ones. Anyway, the Westerns list is HUGE and ill again be writing down titles of interest or with star power of interest or because the movie is important to Western Movies for that matter. Included in this list, is a VERY rarely shown movie which deal with the Battle of the Bulge, and another that is about the Battle of the Alamo.
The title I wanted to list earlier but had forgotten about earlier is: Thunder Birds w/ John Agar. Its NOT to be confused with: Thunderbirds-which is a movie about the 45th Infantry Division in WWII and the one in which Stars and Stripes Cartoonist: Sergeant Bill Mauldin, was in. I cant remember who is in this one? but will tell later on when I have my stuff with me. Anyway, I think Thunder Birds is probably something to do with the Air Force or such. The other is a ground-pounder movie.
Hi Carl, Unless someone has a 'Full HD' or 1080P television a Blu-Ray player is useless. You also have to have the proper HDMI cables in order to get a 'Full HD' experience. I agree in not replacing titles that I already own on DVD...although I have upgraded Band of Brothers. It really is a major difference if you have the proper television and cables. Blu-Ray players also play DVD's...in fact they 'upgrade' the quality of the DVD from 720p to around 1080i...not Blu-Ray quality but much better than what it would look like on a standard DVD player. What type of television does your friend have? RR
Hi RR, it also sounds so expensive to upgrade-and for me, minor sound and picture changes don't warrent spending money I dont have. My friend has a TV set that he bought for Christmas which is a Toshiba and it comes with a built-in DvD player. The picture and sound was great IMo and definately beats my Dinosaur of a TV set. I dont know the details of what-all electronic stuff he has but it beats me out by a long-shot. ;-)) The only details I can cite about his set is that its aflatscreen and has a liquid chrystal thing-a-ma-jig ;-)
Mr Evans, you are a very cruel individual, for making us wait for this grand list. You mentioned foreign movies, anything from my little corner of the world? There are a couple of good Danish movies about the resistance, and the movie 'Støt står den danske sømand' (Steady Stands the Danish Sailor), shows some of the horrors of the merchantmen who sailed the Atlantic convoys. Vest
Hi Vest, heh heh, that i am ) Ill be sending another title shortly providing i can get access to the library computer again. Oh and, nothing from Denmark but, i think you will like or possibly know about a couple titles ill be listing. I think the Czech or Hungarian/Polish titles will be of big interest ;-)) If I dont post one shortly-definately by tonight.
Apparently I only wrote down two Foreign Titles. I think both are from Yugoslavia. One is: SS Strike At Dawn, and I didnt write down any actors names. The other is: Double Circle. Again, I didnt write any actors names down.
Heres two for the price of one because I couldnt post it yesterday. Beast of Berlin w/ Alan Ladd. Crimson Romance w/ Erich von Strohheim.
Bumped up for Pierres sake and ill be able to list a few more foreign titles a bit later. Forgot to mention that the rest of the War Movies titles are posted in the Movies and TV section under their onw thread.
Hi Ray, im going to buy a copy of them soon as I can afford to. My first priority is the new Flynn Box Set ;-))
