I do not have an article, but would like to recognize Mr. John Robert Ament, 94, who served with my father in the 608 Engineer LE Company in WWII. I received word last week that he has passed away. After years of searching for information on the unit, I finally "found" Mr. Ament. My father, sister and I were able to visit with him a year ago today, which happened to be 67th anniversary of the day the 608th returned from the war on the USS Waterbury Victory, docking at NY on Nov. 26, 1945. Mr. Ament generously shared his priceless memories, and he was sharp as a tack, a written account of the unit's early days, and his photos, which included five photos of my father. What a gift. It was a joy to meet him, and it was an honor and a privilege to see those two old soldiers together again. Godspeed, Mr. Ament. (Photos L to R: Mr. Ament in Germany 1945, Mr. Ament and my dad [in the black hat] and a sample of the his photos depicting every day life with the 608th in the ETO. I can't be 100 percent sure, but I believe this is my dad in the Quickway Crane.) View attachment 19960 View attachment 19961 View attachment 19962
