Hi, I just bought this EK2 from a dealer who says it's original and doesn't mind if i return it. What do you guys think? The first two pics are both sides of the eyelet which are both marked in some way (no number) and the third is the comparison between an definite original EK2 eyelet and the new one. Is it normal for one to be thinner in width? I'll send another post with some pictures of the cross overall!
And some more! Just to point out, the core is magnetic, where some paint has peeled, there's rust and the corners are very sharp!
It's times like this when we need Bill Garvy here. Bill is one of "The Guys" to go to when it comes to anything about Eks. I couldn't get the picture to expand so I can't see who the maker is. Also, there is a makers listing posted at WTG :: Index
Thanks for your help, It's odd, because there's no particular makers mark but just a square/rectangular mark either side of the eyelet. The ribbon feels and looks original (thanks to your test in a previous thread), but what do you think about the general appearance of the cross? Thanks again!
It looks good to me, markers are nice to find, but not finding any doesn't mean it's fake at all. I think you have a winner here.
Yeah, there are so many signs that would indicate its genuine, but the sharp corners put me off! You could really do some damage with it
Quite welcome on the help. As for maker-markings-I don't think any of my 1939 Eks are marked and I know that only one of my 1914 Eks are marked. All four of my Ek 1s are marked: L/19, KO, 57 and I think 3? I don't actively collect EKs w/ makers marks on them unlike what some collectors collect them for. I collect Eks (no matter to condition) for the styles of ribbons they have. Most of my EKs have the straight ribbon and no special mounting-others I have look like bows, other wierd knots to one that looks like but I cannot positively confirm the fact but, it looks like it was worn as a field Knights Cross. How I deduced that was that the back side of the ribbon has a stiffener material and also had strands of a thin ribbon sewed to it-which I stupidly removed when I got this Ek some 10 years ago. I also have Court Mounted EKs and one made as a sinlge place Medal Bar-which is my 1870 EK2.
I had the same thought when I saw the edges on mine, they are simply sharp and you could probably cut food paper and more with them. The quality really indicate sit's genuine, the Silver looks great too. I checked several more and they all have the same sharp edges.
