Hi I'm Paul and have joined the forum to help me further research my Dad's WW2 war memoirs. He wrote them three times during his lifetime and I've been editing them into one version. There are loads of photos and I'm going to post one or two in the new pics forum.
In April 1939, Dad joined the Territorial Army and was subsequently called up to serve his country in August 1939. He went to France with the Green Howards and was later evacuated from Dunkirk. As a soldier in the 8th Army, he went on to serve in the Tunisian campaign and afterwards took part in the Sicilian invasion before being in the first wave during the assault on Gold Beach on D-day. He was wounded in France on 30 June 1944.
One of my quests with the book is to track down old comrades or their descendants, which I've made some small progress with already. I've built a web site to help me with this at www.grimdetermination.co.uk, where I'm hosting a "Remembered" page plus photos of all Dad's medals and ephemera etc, together with a chapter of the book, which I'm hoping to get published.
The TA camp in the pic by the way is B company, 6th Green Howards - Dad said it was "Our first Territorial camp in 1939 at Marton, Bridlington. Most of these would be killed or captured at Gazala, by Rommel, when he chased our army back and surrounded the battalions. In fact, up to the time of Alamein, 700 men were to be killed or captured - this number out of 950"
