Well, that's a first for me on this Forum. All I can say is, your knowledge of P-51D identification and markings will certainly be improved by studying this Forum and maybe a book or two.....
P-51 Have you ever heard of painting downed enemies as trophees on your fuselage? If Martin were a Nazi, he'd have painted you on his Mustang. .
Just to put the record straight ; the pic I posted is one I took of P-51D 44-63864 'Twilight Tear' at Duxford in 2007, wearing the actual colours it carried when it operated from Duxford with the 78th FG in 1944-45. The Swastikas represent the 'kill' markings of Lt Hubert 'Bill' Davis ( 2 Bf109s and a Fw190 ). It's also worth noting that 44-63864 went on to serve with the Israeli Air Force from 1953 until 1961..........................................................
