BBC World Service - Documentaries - Night Witches

One cold spring day in 1943, two junior lieutenants, Tamara Pamyatnykh and Raisa Surnachevskaya, were on a routine patrol over a Soviet railway junction. Suddenly they were confronted by an armada of 42 German bombers - they reacted immediately.

Those women are such an inspiration! Not only dealing with the dangers of warfare and piloting planes, they broke the barriers in an era when the woman's place was considered home.

Nice find Mark, and thanks for the refresher Ray.

A former German Landser friend told me the night "bitches" as called were a waste although performed more of a psycho warfare they should of been re-trained and used in a more effective means as crews of Il-2's which some were.
