    Hi,

I came across the phrase PBI in a book and wondered what it stood for?

to put it in context it was said...

I am thinking of something like Poor British Infantryman as the quote comes from a book about the British 3rd Division and US 29th Division opperating in Normandy

Eagles and Bulldogs by Michael Reynolds is the book

The quote comes from the conclusion where the author was dissmssive of allied tactics which promoted set piece infantry attacks with limited and seperate armoured support following either artillery or airborne bombardment.

It's odd as he only used the term once and it's not in the glossary.

It was slang. You came close with your guess - just substiutute "bloody" for British and you have it. "Poor bloody Infantry"
