Hey everyone! I was wondering if there are any intresting places to see in New Jersey from the World War 2 period? I think I've heard of a submarine or something down in the Cape May area, but I might be wrong. Winter break just started and thought maybe I could find some intresting things to do. Any ideas or places?! I'd drive into new york a little too! :)

There are several places to check.
Try the restored Lookout Tower #23 in Cape May Point World War II Tower There is also an abandoned bunker on the beach.
Across Delaware Bay in Lewes Del is Fort Miles FortMiles.org - Main Gate - Welcome to Fort Miles, Del. (you can get there by ferry. It takes about an hour)
In Wildwood, go to the Aviation Museum at Cape May County Airport Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum
Don't forget the Battleship New Jersey in Camden Battleship New Jersey

    Have fun.

Check out the Jersey Devil while you're out that way.

On Manhattan there is the USS Intrepid Museum, which is worthwhile visiting if you can brave the traffic!

If you want something less "commercial", then head on out to Montauk, NY (on the easternmost tip of Long Island) and have have a look around Camp Hero State Park. Among other things there are 16" Coastal Artillery bunkers, a fire control tower and remnants of the base housing. If you are into Cold War history at all, you would also find the 1960s-era military buildings in the area interesting (the centerpiece is a Sperry AN/FPS-35 radar).

I seem to recall going to see "concrete ships" as a child, but couldnt tell you where. My Grandfather was from there (Im in NC)and knew all sorts of stuff, but he's been gone 20+ years now.

I remember a submarine but at the other end of the state, up near Hackensack. I don't know if it is still there but well worth the tour if it is.
