Hello! My name is Pavel and I am a Russian-American. I began to be interested in WW2 when I was told that my Russian grandfather was a good friend of Lenin and my American grandfather served as a cook in the U.S. army. Thanks for reading. If you have any good recommendations of any good WW2 movies/books involving Soviets? I find it more interesting reading about the great Soviet Union's fight against the Nazis :D. Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum Pavel, you might (if you haven't already) want to check out the "Russia at War" section. It is full of goodies concerning that part of WW2; "The Great Patriotic War".

    Welcome Pavel.

The Russian film which springs to mind is Come and See (Иди и смотри), but like a lot of things Russian it is rather dark. Doesn't put me off, but worth mentioning because Saving Private Ryan it isn't.

Thanks guys. I also forgot to say that I don't live in Russia. I've been living in New York for a few years and my English is perfect. :)

I don't know the whole story because my grandfather has passed away, but I remember something my dad heard from him. It was about 6:00 in the morning in Hawaii, (Yes, he was at Pearl Harbor) my grandfather was making omelettes for the soldiers because he was not a soldier himself but a cook. He heard the roar of a plane engine and looked outside to see a plane with the red circle of Japan on the back of the plane. I forgot what he told me after that, but thanks for reading.
