I visited Ploetzensee Prison memorial in Berlin about 2 months ago. This is where the coup plotters were hanged and many others who opposed the Nazis were taken, then killed. It was bombed heavily and all that is left is a small building. One room has an exhibit on those who opposed the Nazis with emphasis on the coup plotters and the other room is where they were hanged and has the iron beam with the meat hooks hanging from it. This part is roped off from the front of the room. Someone had placed flowers there. Outside is a stone urn with ashes from the concentration camp victims.

It was very moving. It is a good place for reflection on the nature of dictatorships of all political stripes and how they deal with their opponents. They tolerate no dissent.

It is hard to find and the directions in the book are incorrect. There is a small sign, but not on the street the book says it's on. There is parking nearby.
