i saw that you are from Singapore and was just curious. Are there any relicts or anything from the war around there?
Hi Ron, Well, not much relics here in Singapore, but we have a tourist attraction called Sentosa Island that still houses the large naval guns that were meant to blast the Jap troops out of the water. It's a pretty cool island We also have lots of Wartime japanese paper money in which we call " banana notes ", u can buy them of the streets at abt 50 Singapore cents each. As I am having a bad flu now I can't type much, but I will keep you posted on this topic. Now, what relics do you have over there?? * Alvin *
hmmm well there isn't much WW2 stuff around where i live. Ilive in New jersey..LOL what happened in new jersey! There are some thing from the US revolution here...regardingWW2 there are some small things. I know there are several merchant vessals that were sunk by U-boats.. but of course you can't see them! I used to vacation in Delaware..and along the coast in some sections there are big concrete towers that were used during the war for spotting surfaced U-boats off the coast. In new Jersey there is a closed Fort/base at Sandy Hook. There are many fortifications that are still around. And sometimes they have tours. The Fort had several main batteries...the kind that would be hidden in a concrete hold...fold up to fire and then fold down after firing. ( i bet bases on the Phillipeans looked similar to this one...for they were built around the same time.) Oh there is an essex class carrier in New York called the Intrepid...that is a museam...but since it was moderized when still in service...it looks quite different from a period carrier. oh well but thats about it for here.
Yeah. Here in the States there really isn't much to write home about - unless you live in Hawaii, of course Just about the only thing here in Pennsylvania is an original Luger or two in the local museums. Although there is U-352 that is sunk just off the coast of the Outer Banks, North Carolina. I've met many people from all over the country who have dived and seen it. It is supposed to be in great shape for its age, and the deck cannon sits at a local dive shop. The owner went down and hauled it up long before the "hype" about it arrived.
Hello Ron, I see you mentioned the 'Sandy Hook' base in Fort Hancock, New Jersey. Could you tell me anything about it? My grandfather fought a bout there in the early forties, at the YMCA Gage Gym. Kind regards, Phil
Hey Phil, it looks like Ron hasn't logged in for almost 4 years, so you are not too likely to get a reply...
