hi this is my first post so apologies if its a little vague, i am trying to find out about the above crash which happened on the way back from germany the plane crashed tail first and there were survivors as one of them was my grandad kenneth john pursehouse 159575 aircrew. i would like to know if anyone has details of the crash and if not how i would get them. also i do not know what kind of lancaster it would have been any help would hopefully get me started . i have googled a lot but to be honest i don't really know what i need to be looking for or how to find his squadron regards janine
Do you know any other name of a crewmember or maybe his Squadron this would help a lot. I have over 3500 crashes listed for 1944 alone. Even a month or a season would help . Your grandad is certainly listed but I need to pinpoint his crew a bit more to avoid days of reading listings.
hi again i have phoned around relatives and my aunt has given me the info from his service and release book dated 24 march 1947 this is everything we know; kenneth john pursehouse joined raf 15 nov1943 no 1595275 air gunner rank sargeant v.g. aircrew BREVET released 24 march 1947 actual release 19 may1947 granted 56 days leave on the front of the book it says age and service group no; 55 unit group 6pru/27 he was released at raf kirkham nr preston lancashire senior account officer 101 dispersal by wing commander?? air office 1/c records k division raf division Gloustershire this is everthing that is written in the book i do apologise if it is not in the correct order as it was given to me in a phone call my grandparents were married on 30 dec 1943 and he had not had the accident then on the photo he has 3 stripes on his right arm and one wing on his left side i think the accident is possibly winter 1944-spring 1945 as my aunt was born in december 1945 and my nan said she didn,t have any children when he had the accident many thanks janine
I checked the winter 44-45 period but could not find his name (unless I read too fast) , so this makes me wonder whether it could have been a non-operational or a training flight. I will look further. The 3 stripes means you grandad had a Sergeant Rank which was common for a gunner (there were 3 in lancaster).
Hi Janine and welcome to the forum. Is there a possibilty the 101 dispersal reference might refer to 101Squadron? Also, might I suggest you post your inquiry on RAF Commands 1939-1945. Make sure you give them the service #. This site is pretty much dedicated to Bomber Command and there are many experts and researchers there. The name and service # will give them a good start. Good luck in your research. Leslie
