Can any ROYAL NAVY Commando of WW2 or family of one help in my research, please.

Im looking for any service records that exist of ROYAL NAVY Commando.

There were approx 22 units of about 2000 men in total, a very few really.

So a slight chance of finding any.

Never the less, please make contact if you have service record, ANY info, family or friends.

    many thanks.

I do not have the service record, but I do know that J M Mitchell who died on 19th August 1942 at Dieppe was a Royal Naval Commando. There was also an RN Commando among an NVA group I took to Normandy in 2014. let me know the naturte of your research and I will see if he or his daughter are willing to talk to you. (assuming he is still alive and I have not lost his email address)

Thanks for your interest: I Dont know if my uncle Patrick Fitzpatrick was Combined ops/LCT and Commando or just Combined ops/LCT.

He was frequently in and out of HMS Dundonald and HMS Copra.... attached to Combined ops for 9days 2weeks etc then back to these ‘shore base’.

Was this normal Combined ops type service? The service record is basic, with NO detail. Dates and HMS shore base but no activity.

Was he a Combined ops sailor attached regularly to a specific RN beach commando unit? To a RM unit? To a LCT craft?

For example my research shows RN Beach Commando unit A & unit O & unit H were sent to HMS Salsette, and HMS Braganza, Bombay, India July 1943.

Also present in this convoy were part of the 3rd special service brig RM #42 & RM #44..... for operations in Burma jan 1944. Did my uncle as a Combined ops sailor go to 'support' or to train these commandos? What operation was this, etc

Were ANY of these Commando units RN/RM supported by dedicated Combine ops personnel throughout all of their ops with dedicated Landing craft and dedicated Combined ops oversight. For example Was Joe blogs of combined ops ‘always’, posted with LCT or ship HMS LST and Flotilla to support RNBC unit A or RM42........

A Royal Navy or Royal Marine commando family member would know this information, I hope!!!!!!!!

Or perhaps a member of your forum. Would identify my uncles vague service record and confirm this was a RN Combined ops sailor or this was a RN Combined ops sailor who was also RN commando. Im quite lost with this. many thanks for you interest.

I would suggest you contact the unit he was in and get the historical officer. If the unit no longer exists, then contact the Commando HQ and talk to their historical officer. They would be better able to tell you what was and was not part of the commando unit and what was support.
