An impressive collection Gary. I thought there was one or two collectors of Russian stuff here, but not sure. In the bottom right frame--bottom left in the frame--arent those some DDR items?
WOW! That looks like Zhúkov's chest... I love the Soviet awards, they are really classy. Reproduction of gold star medal of Hero of the Soviet Union Order of the great patriotic war Marshall Zhúkov Medal Order of the red star
Ha! I'd like to... But my only piece of militaria is a Luegger which my grandfather gave me on my birthday.
OH, poor unfortunate Gary-just his "small" collection-I would love to see your complete collection then!!!!!! All jokes aside-a very beautiful and commendable collection you have there!!!!
I havent seen his entire collection yet--but I think he also has 2-3 Lugers, and a Walther P-38. Now if we could get Greg to take a pic of his entire Iron Crosses collection--it would blow your mind away at what he has. He also has two 1870 EK2s one with a 1914 Spange for the ribbon--which is VERY rare. If the soldier who won the 1870 ek2 in 1870-1871, and if he was 20 yrs old at that time--then he won the ek2 again in say--1914--he would have been 64 to 65 yrs old.
OK. Here I have more. (Not mine, of course...) Medal for Bravery Medal for the liberation of Berlin Medal for the Defense of Moscow Medal for the defense of the Caucasus OK: I will bring more later on!
Actually, there was a guy in my old school who had an original Red Army officer's cap from the 1970s... $40 bucks were Ok for me. Damned! I lost his telefon!!! And I am seeking for a Lenin Order.
Yes, I collect USSR and Yugoslav Orders and medals. Most of my collection can be viewed on the Wehrmacht-Awards forum on the International Militaria section. Gary Mott posted the images for me since I do not have the capability to do so. I say most of my collection, since I have added many pieces since the pictures were taken.
I have a bunch of Soviet medals, mainly because there aren't really any fakes out there yet, I'll take a look at your collection Ken, and welcome to the forums!
Welcome aboard, Ken! We would love to see your collection! Soviet stuff is really cool! I do not like the political system at all, but I have to accept that it is very fascinating to study and has a lot of glamour. The red is a nice colour. I have some pictures of Imperial Russian awards and they are very, very and classy!
Unfortunately more and more fakes of Russian medals are cropping up. In the latest catalogue (November 2002) from Atlantic Crossroads, the following copies, identified as copies, are listed for sale: - Hero of the Soviet Union (long reproduced) - Order of Lenin, suspension type - Order of Lenin, screw back - Order of the Red Banner, 3rd award - Order of the Red Banner, 4th award - Order of the Red Banner, 5th award - Order of the Red Banner , 6th award - Order of Alexander Nevsky, type I on suspension - Order of Suvorov, 1st and 3rd classes, screw back and suspension type - Orde of Kutuzov, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd classes, screw back and suspension types - Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd classes - Order of Nakhimov, 2nd class The two classes of Partisan medals have long been faked as have many of the WWII medals.
From the same catalogue I mentioned in my last post, I just bought a Lenin Prize; a Red Banner, 3rd award; a Honored State Security Employe Badge; and a very rare Type I Medal for Distinguished Service in Protecting the Public Order from the early 1950s in sterling silver.
I am just begining my collection. Im starting by tryin to get most the Campaign medals. Does anyone have good websites that may sell them? Im getin some off of www.collectrussia.com does anyone else got any links?
There are fakes.........beware. Not as bad as third reich items, but getting that way. Arm yourself with a good reference book.
Glad to see you back here Mike. Also--I found out why no avatar can be picked yet--sent answer in a PM.
