My films have arrived, just spent a shade over £40 on the following.

    THE DESERT FOX
    A BRIDGE TO FAR
    THE GREAT ESCAPE
    BATTLE OF BRITAIN

Great stuff, Richard - you've got four of my all-time favourites there ( 'Where Eagles Dare', 'Battle Of Britain', 'Bridge At Remagen' and 'A Bridge Too Far' ).

Also 'Anzio', which actually isn't a terribly good film ( with ghastly music ! :() and yet I always quite enjoy watching it .....

Hey Lord Noodles, great selection you got there. Also, for some reason, Cross of Ironis hard to keep in stock-at least here in the USA, and as the makers name states (Hens Teeth) that movie can be at times, as hard as Hens Teeth to find ;-))

Never seen Anzio so it will be a first for me. Indeed I had a set budget and that lot fitted nicely in to it.

My Dad took me to see it at the movies when it came out ( '68, I think ? ). It's good in parts ( like the duel in the sun with German snipers ) and, as always, Robert Mitchum is good to watch....

Hi Noodles ;-)) like Martin said in different words-the sniper scens are top-notch, most of the rest of the film is fair to middeling-but the ending scenes were superb and almost Sam Peckinpahesque in quality.

One thing you might notice about having the DvD is that extra scenes were added to the movie. Over-all not much but about 2 minutes more than the VHS tape has.

You will notice the extra footage which is near the end of the movie and after Steiner forces the Captain to find out where those "Iron Crosses Grow." Some of the extra footage added will be seen during that scene where a Russian Fighter is strafing them.

Watched it on Sunday Carl have to agree with you and Martin an average film no bad but could have been better. As you say Carl the sniper scene near the end of the film was good.

    5 out of 10

Moving on to...The Eagle has Landed Special Edition, I noticed about 3 or 4 new scenes in the film. Some were new scenes like right at the start you see Hitler, Himmler and Canaris talking in a hallway about kidnapping Churchill. Only short scenes and no change to the action part of the film.

But the cigar..I have it on good authority hat Mitchums cigar was used on Anzio beach head and Utah...That cigar helped win ww2 by the looks of it.

And its cuban but dont tell the yanks....

Not too bad at that. Also, a big plus in it for me was Peter Falk and Earl Holliman. Good for a rainy boring Sunday afternoon type movie. Same goes for Attack--with Lee Marvin and the other recognizable "faces" who were in it. I didn't care for the guy who played the Lieutenant though.

Sunday for me was supposed to be: "Witness For the Prosecution" which had Charles Laughton in it. However, since it was a Netflix rental-the darn disk was cracked in half on delivery :-( Therefore, I switched to Plan "B" and watched Unconquered- which had Gary Cooper in it.

I've read the Eagle has Landed and it was a great book, not sure about the movie, let me know how it goes.
