hey you guys/gals, if you can make this a priority for next year by all means do it. . . . I am thinking seriously with a visit to Amish country, excluding bozos that like to shoot the locals. over 70 Mustangs are already signed up with a possibility of 100 on hand. A very cool tribute will be 60 Mustangs flying in formation ~ the eqivalent of an entire fighter group flying over head . . . yowser !! Gents another thing, my friends in the 352nd fg will be having their 2007 reunion in Dayton with plans to visit on one of the days, a prime opportunity to visit these fine blue noser vets. No doubt other 8th AF fighter group reunions will lie on the same time frame with attendees taking another look at those "beauties" ........ a time not to be missed. Date : September 27-30, 2007 at Columbus, Ohio E ~
I can't imagine the fantastic sound that many Mustangs will make, just one supercharged Merlin's distinctive whining scream sends shivers up my spine. Wouldn't it be nice if some owners could get together and do matching paint-jobs for a complete squadron. I really must go to more airshows.... Cheers, Adam
Barring an act of God, I'm going to be there Erich! This is something I need to see, and I'm so damn close anyways! Maybe we can make this an unofficial WWIIN event?
what a hoot it would be friends. What is way cool as my wife looked at me when I read this in the newsletter and smiled, so when do we get plane tickets ..... ? She actually is quite fond of these gatherings herself .......... let's see what transpires, and yes Otto being as close as you are, GO E
I'll be there Erich, I've asked my significant other and she's excited to go. I'll post pictures and video too.
Maybe next year would be great to see some other people from the Forums....Actually it´s not such a long way from Europe...
Not totally certain Erich but right now I feel like I want to be there. That is if I know there are people I want to meet! Then it´s 99%.
I'm so geared up about this event. I'm glad that you will be there Erich, any news about you Kai? I know of three other WWIIF members that are thinking of going, hrmm...maybe I can set something up with the organizers...
That would be incredible Kai! Like I said, I'm going to contact the organizers and see what kind of help thay can render to a larger group like us.
aww man, i wish i could make that, but long drive from georgia thankfully i was pacified when a mustang flew VERY low over my fishing boat in the florida keys...lol
Hrmph! Well as you can probably tell, I couldn't get down there for this. A bunch of *stuff* came up making it impossible to attend. I'm going to be very busy through the end of '07 but I'll try to make a few events in '08. I'd be thrilled to go to Beltring, or even visit the Vimoutiers Tiger and take a Martin Bull inspired Wittman photo. Hopefully they do a Gathering of Mustangs again, it seems to be quite popular.
If you do make it over next year Otto let me know and I'll see if I can arrange for you to stay with our group at the event, at the very least some sort of forum get together would be in order.
***** Otto ***** just a thought, why not hook up this thread with the Legends thread I started up ? as to future shows the Mustangs will always be there, the WW2 pilot veterans most likely not and you will probably not see as many varied per US unit involved show up at one of these ever again. alas it was a once in lifetime event. many of the US fighter group assn's are closing their doors up and allowing the younger "kids" to run the show, but it will never be the same. the good point is that most assn. reps are allowing new members to join to keep the fg's active with financial support. As I have done so over the many years since the 1970's there have been some pretty neat perks that have come along the way. As Stefan points out even with 1-2 Mustnags and or P-47's show up in England next year you can bet there will be as many former WW 2 veterans right there as well, and maybe with some kin for a mini re-union gathering.
