For children who are young and growing, that long deployment that has happened over and over during those growing years is a very serious sacrifice made for our country. I know this, knowing my nephew's children, and how much they suffer each time he has to go. Videos like that are indeed hard to view if you know how much of this agony of children occurs each time.
or Victor if you have been there done that........... personally I cannot watch jack-squat on Nam, and yes it is my choice but I think you get my drift.
Met a guy at Blum's Landing (Home) last summer who was on vacation there with his wife and two kids ages 9 and 5....he's been deployed 6 and a half out of the last 8 years. That's is very tough.
Dam. Got something in my eye.... :S! to all who are serving overseas, all who have served, and all who are preparing for a deployment. :S!
I just feel compelled to express something about Viet Nam. I know there is deep hurt for how this war came to an end......something most of us may not have wanted or supported. However, that said, that does not change the nature, the quality, the sacrifice that our soldiers were performing for our country. I know there were soldiers that carried with them the severe ills that existed in our society in those days and those problems may have at times spilled over into the battle fields. However that still does not subtract from the fact that for the most part soldiers served to protect and take care of our country and its values. For me(I did not serve), who lost friends to this conflict in battle, I still am in awe at the sacrifices made and performed by so many troops that stood up to protect us here at home. I will say the honor and the glory, and the valor, cannot be diminished by the politics of the end of the conflict. My friend was "Shakey" of the documentary film "Shakey's Hill" and when I can control my emotions and have the need I take out my disc and re-watch the footage, and I admit I am not strong enough to do this except at certain times and I am never sorry I watched it one more time. I thank Norman Lloyd the journalist that took his old footage he recovered from CBS and created this film we should all watch to remember sacrifice. Some of the people who are in this film spent the time from then to 2004 avoiding the memories, trying to extinguish the hurt that happened but were incredibly thankful to re-group surrounding the making of this documentary. Although parts of this film or a great part of this film has been on the Military channel I am still hopeful it will get viewing that is more widespread. It does have some graphic footage however.
