Hi, schwarzfeder is my handle here, and this is a fairly new forum for me. "schwarzfeder" is German for "black feather" the feathers of the "Spielhahn", the mountain grouse ,the Auerhahn, symbols taken by the 97th Mountain Light Infantry division (WH).

I have a BA in History/English from U of Montana. My big study and collecting interests are German (Kaiserzeit through Reunification), American West and British/UK. I have done varierties of journalism work, scholarly research/translations and have been collecting militaria for fifty years.

Aside from being a one-time naval officer wannabe, I served with USDA/SCS (natural rtesources conservation) and USFS. My late father was a WWII Navy combat veteran.

I like doing graphics and art--some military subjects--and I really enjoy modelling. I like dioramas/figure work, but have built ships and planes, mostly vintage. Most of what I build is German stuff. Archaeo/Anthropology interests me, and I'd love to be in on a battlefield dig! I'm concerned that there is too much illegal digging and outright grave robbery going on in the world right now.

I grew up with mountain sports, so naturally developed an interest in the German mountain and jaeger units. Hunting and fishing I have done, and I like to travel. Nature, pets, music of all kinds, and writing of all kinds interest me.

Check out my book review/briefs in the Books section.
