Old Soviet limo ZIS used by Josif Stalin is in sale in Finland. The car is from 1949 and it has been driven only 1 276 kilometres (sorry, no glue what it is in miles ). The limo has been in use only in parades and it's history has been documented very accurately. Seller hasn't put any price tag on it and it will be sold to biggest offer. Seller says that he believes that potential market for this car is going to be in Russia, but I believe some western collectors might be interested of this. See pictures from the official web site of the seller. MAT - Makela Auto Tuning - HISTORIC SPORTS AND RACING CAR SPECIALIST
Yeah, so if you're interested I can start negotiations on your behalf and obviously do the test drives and stuff.
Well, you wouldn't find a Packard with that few miles on it. And that is what that car is really, a Packard. The tools and dies from the Packard plant were sent to the USSR duing L/L days, and the Soviets kept using them to make luxo cars for years.
Hmmm. I don't see any documentation that says they didn't turn the odometer back. I can hear the sales pitch now; "Garage kept. Only driven in parades on the odd holiday (May Day, VE Day, etc.) by a dictator, Never been on the open road. This baby is ready for some real action. Maybe open the throttle and blow some of the sludge off the pistons."
Well Lou, I would take book that no extra miles were put on the thing without Stalin sitting in the back seat. Which driver would dare to take the Generalisimo's car out for a joy ride to impress his girl friend?
Exactly! As a former car sales manager, I would say that this piece would be a treasure to sell. Sales pitches would be quite different. Yeah, that would be quite a big risk. Imagine uncle Josif's look on his face when he smells something strange in the back seat? Next thing he would do is obviously to check the miles from the odometer
Misters, learn history. Smart cabriolets ГАЗ-21 were at that time used. Therefore this machine could not take part in parade!
What does the picture of a post-Stalin era car in a parade have to do with the "joke" about the low mileage of the Limo pictured in the original post? Just asking if you are also making a "joke" we in the west don't get.
