    Stephen T. Deane, 91, of Claverack, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at the Samuel S. Stratton Medical Center in Albany.

    Born in Hudson on Sept. 14, 1919, he was the son of the late Rose (Morton) and George Deane.

    Steve served in the US Army Infantry Division during World War II. He was a prisoner of war for 18 months in Italy. Upon returning to the US, he served in the 250 MP CO as a guard at the White House during the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration.

    He was employed at the Universal Match Factory for 31 years as a supervisor and printer.


    Steve is survived by his wife, Leeann (Hardy) Deane of Claverack; his son and daughter-in-law, Todd S. and Suzanne Deane of Waterford, NY, and three daughters, Stephanie, Virginia, and Cathi. Also surviving are his twin brother, John E. Deane of Philmont, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by three brothers, George, Peter, and Joseph Deane.

    Cremation is under the direction of the Bates & Anderson - Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
