I don't believe that any of the three Allies met any of the Nazi leaders. Churchill came the closest, with a meeting scheduled until Churchill asked some rather pointed questions about the Jews of one of Hitler's aides..

The closest Stalin and Hitler came was a possible phone call(reported, not documented), other than that I believe that those two exchanged letters.

Not that I would have expected them to...or that there was much call or opportunity...it is just kind of interesting that 3 such large opponents would never have met.
You dedicate you life to some guy that you have never talked to, or even been in the same room with.....

I assume you are being serious. Yes, the Po is in Italy, northern to be more precise. As for the diffict crossing, I think you're referring to the Rapido.

Why would I not be serious.?
I remember hearing bad recounts of a river in North Italy that was crossed during real heavy water flow.
    Lots of casualties.
Maybe THAT river was in the Po Valley.?
Is there a problem with asking that.?
I was not making light of your fathers death at all.

Because it has nothing to do with Stalin, Churchill, and Roosevelt meeting Hitler, Himmler, or Goering.

Ahh, now I see Lou's sig. Sorry, I see it so often that it just blends into the background - so to speak.

To be clear, my father was not a casualty in WW2. He was in on the operations in Italy, from Salerno until the end. I don't believe the Po created the kind of difficulty referred to. See the site www.history.army.mil/brochures/po/72-33.htm for more detail.

    Thanks for the link.
    Sorry about my incorrect assumption.
Did not mean to kill off your Father before his time. :)

Simon Sebag Montefiore's Young Stalin records that Stalin lived in Vienna for a time in 1913, when Hitler was also resident, although there is no indication that they encountered each other. Trotsky and Josip Brox (later Tito) also lived in Vienna around that time.

That is another Big 3 of their own.
With Lenins death and Trotskys murder...The poor Soviet went downhill in a hurry.
Together with Tito, they could have.....well what can you say.?
    Thanks for the info

There is a thread around here, with some commentary by brndirt1 (Clint), but at the moment I can't locate it. I think the gist of the thread is that, while Stalin and Hitler lived in Vienna at the same time, there is nothing to indicate that they ever met. I think you are correct.
